Troubleshooting Installation
Problem Diagnosis Solution
I have installed Memory-Map V5 but get the following message when I start the program:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path..."
A required file is missing or has been deleted from the PC.

Uninstall Memory-Map via Control Panel and then download the latest version from here and save it to your PC.

Once the file has downloaded find where you saved it and double-click it to install the program. Once it has finished installing do not delete the file afterwards.

I cannot find the Memory-Map icon on the desktop. The program has not automatically installed from the CD/DVD. Explore the contents of the disc and open the setup folder. Double-click on either of the setup files with a picture of a computer as its icon (it doesn't matter which). Follow the onscreen instructions to install the program.
I have installed my 2004 software but it won't run, saying I require an update. Ordnance Survey licence conditions require the software to be updated to the latest 2004 software. This is a FREE update. To install the free update click here and download the file to your PC. Once it has finished downloading, run the file to install the update.
My 2003 version won't run and freezes on the logo screen.

V3.x.x of Memory-Map is not compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7.

It is compatible with Windows XP providing you do not have Microsoft Activesync 3.7.1 or later installed.

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to update your software and maps to Memory-Map V5. Please click here for details on how to do so.

If you are using Windows XP check to see whether you have Microsoft Activesync 3.7.1 or later installed. If you do you will need to remove it before you can use Memory-Map. If you have a device that requires Activesync 3.7.1 or later you will need to upgrade to Memory-Map V5.

I've just updated to the latest version and now I can no longer print or use my GPS. You have updated Memory-Map from a previous version that did not use the new username / password system.

The first time you upgrade to a version of Memory-Map that uses our new licencing system you will be asked to create a username and password to activate the software.

You only need to do this once and your username and password you create will be valid for all future Memory-Map updates.

Troubleshooting Maps
Problem Diagnosis Solution
Not all my maps are appearing in the map list. The map list needs updating.

To refresh the map list click the menu option Map > Map List and then the Refresh Map List button. Make sure the Search sub-folders box is ticked and then click OK

If you are still missing maps, reinsert the discs to install the maps and then repeat the above steps.

I get the message "PNG color type must be PALETTE error" when refreshing my map list. The program has been told to scan across your PC for maps and is picking up images in the wrong format. Click the menu option Map > Map List and then the Refresh Map List button. In the white box make sure only folders that contain maps are listed and nothing else, such as C: or D: If they are use the Remove Folder button to delete them from the list.

The default locations for maps are either C:\Maps or C:\Maps_v5

Make sure the bottom two tick boxes - Search sub-folders and Clear all previously loaded maps are ticked and then click OK and your map list will be updated and refreshed.
Some of my maps have a red cross next to them or are pixelated when I open them. The maps are encrypted and have not yet been unlocked or activated.

If the map is one you have purchased, either on CD or by digital download then you will be prompted to activate the map when you open it.

If you have not purchased the map but wish to do so then you can purchase the map during activation.

Click Help > Licence Management and then the Online Info button to view details on what map activations you have in your account.

I have merged two of my maps together but there is a big white gap between them.

The merge process was originally designed to merge small tiles and not large maps. Maps are merged by taking the corners of the maps and stitching them together.

The larger the map the bigger the gap will be between these points because of the curvature of the Earth.

Ordnance Survey Landranger maps are built with a 20km overlap to reduce the need for merging maps.

If you need complete, seamless merged maps then you may want to upgrade your maps to Digital Map Shop maps, which can offer completely seamless coverage of Britain. Contact Sales to find out more.

When I open an overlay file to view a route or track it opens on the wrong map to the one I want. Memory-Map is currently designed to display an overlay file on the most detailed map by scale.

If the map automatically selected is not the one you want you can quickly change the map by right-clicking on the screen and selecting Maps at Cursor and then the map you would like to view.

There is currently no way to change this functionality, however this may change in the future.

Troubleshooting GPS
Problem Diagnosis Solution
I get the error message "Can't Open COM port" when using my Garmin GPS. The program is unable to open or access the selected COM port. If using a Garmin GPS with a grey screen, and it is connected by either a serial or USB cable, please download and follow the steps in our Serial Garmin troubleshooting guide.
I get the error message "Communication timeout" or "Unknown Garmin", or similar. An incorrect setting is casuing Memory-Map to receive no response from your Garmin GPS. If using a Garmin GPS with a grey screen, and it is connected by either a serial or USB cable, please download and follow the steps in our Serial Garmin troubleshooting guide.
I cannot send maps to my Garmin or Magellan GPS. Memory-Map cannot send maps to Garmin or Magellan GPS units as only the manufacturers of the units have this ability.

You can send routes, tracks and marks to your Garmin or Magellan, which will allow you to navigate in confidence.

If you require a GPS that supports our mapping products then you may want to consider purchasing an Adventurer 2800 GPS or a Pocket PC.

I have a Memory-Map Adventurer 2800 or Adventurer 7000 GPS and cannot connect using the GPS menu in Memory-Map. The GPS menu is for Garmin and Magellan GPS units and is not used by the Adventurer units. The Adventurer is accessed from your PC using the Mobile Device and Overlay menus. For more details please refer to the user guide.
Troubleshooting PDA
Problem Diagnosis Solution
I cannot install the software to my Windows Mobile Pocket PC as the Install to Mobile menu option is greyed out. Microsoft Activesync (Win XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista / Win 7) is not installed.

Windows XP users download and install Microsoft Activesync from www.microsoft.com

Windows Vista and Windows 7 users download and install Windows Mobile Device Center from www.microsoft.com

I cannot install the software to my WinCE device. Memory-Map does not support the installation or use of the software on generic WinCE devices. Consider purchasing a Pocket PC running the Windows Mobile operating system, or the Adventurer 2800 GPS.
I cannot install the software to my iPhone through the PC software. To run Memory-Map on the iPhone you need to download the app through the App Store. Access the App Store on your iPhone and search for Memory-Map to download the app.
I cannot see a map I have sent to my mobile device. The map list needs to be refreshed. Open the map list on the device and then tap the Refresh button to update the map list.
I cannot use the GPS on my PDA with Memory-Map. The GPS settings have not been set-up in Memory-Map correctly. Check our forum for the most common PDA settings. If yours is not listed you can post a request to see if anyone else knows, or alternatively contact your PDA manufacturer.
