Thank you for your comments and feedback on the 3500. We appreciate your comments and are working with our development team and hardware partner on the issues raised, including the backlight timeout setting, backlight occasionally not coming on when the unit is brought out of sleep mode, and to see whether a screen lock feature can be added.

The sleep feature works as intended at the moment in that it is a quick way to power down and power up the unit. It was not designed to allow the 3500 to still record a track when asleep as it uses the Windows CE suspend mode, which puts the CPU and peripherals into a low power mode. During this time the GPS and application process (i.e. Memory-Map itself) are not running. Think of this the same as having your TV on standby. When it is on standby you cannot see a picture, but you can quickly turn it on again. We will amend the userguide to make it clearer that when in Sleep mode your position will not be tracked.

Our development team are working on a number of projects, including Adventurer 3500 updates, so we should have more news in January as to how the issues can be addressed and what the update will include. We will update this thread and the Knowledgebase as we have information.

The update mentioned above is currently in testing, and as such will hopefully be available soon (baring any issues with the update of course)

A screenlock of sorts is still being worked on.

Thanks

The update itself is finished, and runs really well.
However we are currently waiting on the hardware manufacturers to finish writing an application to apply the update so that customers can update the units.

This updates includes

Velocity Vector - Fixed
Course over Ground - Fixed
Backlight Timer - Fixed
Sleep Mode Recovery - Fixed
Auto Power Off - Removed

Thanks

I am pleased to report that a screen lock (for recording a track while the device is in your pocket or backpack) is also done, and will be included in the same update.

Memory-Map Adventurer 3500 GPS – Firmware Update (v4.12) Software Update (v5.4.5 b1118) - Release date: 05 May 2011

An update is now available for the ADV3500. This includes revisions to both Sleep Mode and Lock Screen mode.

Fixed: Velocity Vector
Fixed: Course over Ground
Fixed: Backlight Timer
Fixed: Sleep mode. From Memory-Map press front panel button and select Sleep GPS Off. Puts GPS into a ‘suspended’ state to maximise battery life but allow fast resume from a single press of the front panel button. When in sleep mode GPS tracklogs will not be continuously recorded but will be automatically ‘joined’ from the last known position when resumed.
Fixed: Lock screen. From Memory-Map press front panel button and select Lock Screen. Turns off back light and touchscreen to reduce power but still records GPS position for a continuous tracklog. Press front panel button and Unlock to return to normal mode.

To upgrade your GPS:
1.Email support@memory-map.co.uk and request a Returns Authorisation Number stating you require an ADV3500 firmware update
2.Memory-Map Support will email your returns number to you along with a returns form to complete
3.Complete the returns form and enclose with your GPS to the Repair Centre address shown on the form – DO NOT SEND BACK TO THE SALES OFFICE
4.Your GPS will be updated and returned to you within 7-10 days free of charge.

A downloadable version of this update is also being worked on and expected within 2-4 weeks.

The ADV3500 update is now available for download.
Please see here http://www.memory-map.co.uk/adventurerG ... 500-update for instructions.

However you can still return the units to the repair center for updating if you do not feel confident in performing the update yourself.
As normal, please contact support@memory-map.co.uk for a returns form.

Thanks
