I'm trying to connect MM on my Dell Axim x51v to a bluetooth GPS. I have tried two GPS devices, the Dell badged Globalsat BT322 which came with it and a BT359; both will connect to the Dell Navigation software on the Axim and display current satellite data, so I know that BT is talking to the Axim. In MM however, there are no satellites and an error message 'GPS timeout'.

I've put the baud rate down to 4800 and tried all the COM ports. The GPS type I've entered as SiRF. I've paired the GPS in the BT settings, checked the 'serial port' box and set up COM7 as outgoing and COM8 as incoming.

I've installed "GPS Scanner" and get "No GPS connected" (managed to get that to change from red type to green, although I'm not sure what that signifies!) and VisualGPSce which finds nothing.

I'm new to bluetooth but I'm suspecting that the Dell Navigation software has a "hidden" pairing with the BT322, and that's conflicting with anything else I try to set up.

Thanks for any assistance.

Chris

You may well be right.

Try GPS Gate. 14 day trial from here.

Thanks, flyboy, I appreciate your help. I'd thought about GPS gate, but since I couldn't get any apps to detect the GPS, I guessed it would probably have the same problem.

I've just managed to get it working - not quite sure what I did... Realising I have installation CDs for the native mapping software, I uninstalled it. Then I found a web page which gave a much better explanation of the GPS 'Intermediate driver' on WM5 - I think it's similar to GPS gate; as I now understand, you map the bluetooth to one port (confusingly described as 'Outgoing') then your GPS apps to a second (which you set up as 'Incoming'). None of that worked, and it still doesn't, but I can ignore it and point MM directly at the 'Outgoing' port.
