I am trying to send overlay data to my mobile device but can't get it working.

Software Version is MM 5.4.2 Build 1089
PC OS: Win 7
Phone OS: Windows Smartphone 2003

The phone is connected correctly as I have been able to send a visible map portion and can view this successfully through Pocket Navigator.

I use the Mobile Device/Export data to device menu option and this completes on screen ok. On checking the location specified on my mobile the .mmo file is there however when I go into Pocket Navigator there are no overlays to select from.

As an alternative I tried saving the specific route on the pc and then directly placing the file directly onto the phone through file transfer. Then opened the file with Pocket Navigator and while Pocket Navigator opened, still no overlay.

Next backed up my master .mmo file on the PC then used the delete all option from the overlay menu. Then re-imported the specific route I need (which is originally a gpx file) and converted to a route. Then used the Mobile Device/Export data to device menu option and noted the file on phone was much smaller than previously so was confident it had updated. Still no overlays available to select from on the overlay menu through Pocket Navigator.

Ran out of ideas to try. Help!

Go into MM on the PC, view Help, Topics, Pocket Navigator, pick the appropriate style of phone and start reading.
I think you will find that Overlays cannot be imported. That is certainly how it reads to me if you have a Smartphone without a touchscreen, as I do.

Sorry.

Thanks Davidss. MM Support were also very quick at responding to an e-mail to confirm this.

Having re-read the help topic I see the sentence:

'This version of the software does not provide routes (they will be coming soon in a future release)'

Does the phone show in your Mobile Device Center? What specific phone are you using?

Hi,

Well, neither routes nor even track recording seem to work on my (non-touchscreen) WM6.1 SmartPhone. I'm surprised (and disappointed) that there's no tracklog as this facility hardly seems to need a touchscreen interface (and can't even be fully disabled on other WM devices).

I believe the SP version was introduced with v5.0.6 in 2006 with a minor upgrade at v5.1.1 and can't see any other references in the release notes. I admit I haven't upgraded past v5.1.3 myself as the limited functionality seems rather a "waste" of a license on the new management system. I wasn't really expecting any further development because of the proliferation of touchscreens now.

USmmtech are you implying that routes/tracks are supported? My particular device (which is accessible via Active Sync) is a Motorola Q9h, where the numeric keys buried within a QWERTY keyboard makes the UI even worse. :(

Cheers, Alan.

It does seem odd, I can't think why a touchscreen would make a difference.

My phone is an old SPV C550, which is why I don't worry about using it when riding or walking. Also because it's old there aren't a lot of fancy apps on it so the battery lasts easily for week long trips. Might have to start looking at getting something more up to date, once MM have gone Android!

I have the same problem, after upgrading MM to 5.4.2 (build 1058) on my ipaq 2210 (win mob 2003 v2) I can download maps and place names but can no longer export routes and tracks to my Pocket PC. This is very frustrating as it was working fine in the previous version. I also tried to import GPX without success

This is one of the killer features that I use.

I have now installed Veiwranger on my android phone and was able to go on my cycling trip by importing the route as a GPX file with open cycle map.

Hi,

Have you upgraded MM on the Ipaq to v5.4.2?

The .MMO overlay file format is not backwards compatible from v5.4.2 to v5.1.3, etc.. AFAIK the mobile software can only read .MMO overlay files.

Cheers, Alan.
