Running Memory Map on Garmin GPSMAP 78

Hi,
I am considering buying a Garmin GPSMAP 78 but want to run Memory map on it. The Garmin web site says its can accept Custom Maps but how can check it will run Memory Map?

I'm fairly sure it won't.

"Custom" and "Proprietary" (e.g. Memory-Map encrypted) maps are NOT the same thing.

AFAIK, the only devices which can run Memory Map are those with Windows (Mobile), Android or iPhone/Pad Operating Systems, and devices with MM pre-installed (Adventurers, etc.).

Thanks for yr reply.
A mate of mine has got his etrex 700? running MM so I guess I need to find out if his beast is running Windows mobile?

Hi,

Some Garmin mobile phones have run both the WM(6) and Android Operating Systems (in different models) and these can be used also as a "car" style satnav, but I'm not aware of any "etrexs" like this. However, I've not much knowledge of the new "numerical" models like the etrex 100, 200, etc. (which I'm fairly sure only run Garmin's proprietary OS) so maybe there is a 700.
