I can happily create Routes and Waypoints on my pc and "Send to GPS" on a new Garmin 62s. I have done this for years with my old Garmin Etrex Venture CX.

I can also save Tracks and Finds/Waypoints on the new GPS.

I can import the saved Tracks into Memory Map but the Marks just don't make it - why is this?

My Memory Map Ordnance Survey Edition is updated to Version 5.4.2 Build 1089 which I believe is the latest version.

The 62 stores the overlays as a GPX file (under the Garmin / GPX folder) and you should be able to import using OVERLAY > IMPORT in the program.

Thanks for that. My program doesn't recognise any of the GPX files in the Garmin GPX folder or in its CURRENT folder. Computer Explorer does see them and I can drag and drop them across to a folder where I store GPX files. When I double-click the GPX file then the Waypoints appear on Memory Map which is then fine.

Do you think there is a problem with my MM installation? Is is updated to the current version. The silly thing is that the program DOES import the Tracks under GPS - Import from GPS (but not the Recent Finds / Waypoints)! I can now live with what I have thanks to help from the Garmin forum but it would be good to know what the problem really is. I have imported/exported for 5 years with my old Garmin Etrex model, never a problem! Aws I said above - I can live with the system I now have.

The import only brings in the current (active) track, correct? I believe the saved tracks come in with the GPX file.

Not sure - I will tell you later tomorrow. I had a saved track and I thought I deleted the then-current track. I thought it was the saved track that came into the pc. I am pretty viscious about saving and deleting. Every time I do a walk the unit has nothing in it but a route for that day. I like simplicity!

Today I saved a track and thern cleared the 62s memory of the current track.

When connected to Memory Map and following the "GPS - Import from GPS" routine, nothing came in. I had to copy the GPX files for the day for both the saved track and some waypoints into a saved GPX files folder. Then, double-clicking them brought them up in MM. Not a problem. I'm OK with that.

What is an irritation is the straight line track between our house and the start/end point. I cleared all memory before leaving home and saved the track and cleared the current memory before returning. Where did this straight line come from, at what stage - before or after the walk?? I thought I had done everything to avoid that. I assume there is no way to turn the tracking mode on/off as on the old Etrex Venture?

Hi Keith,

Probably after the walk, if you switched on the GPS at home within an hour of switching off (in which case MM will append the current position to the original track). But it's not too difficult (within MM on PC) to right-click on the start of the straight line, select "split track" and delete the unwanted line.

I don't know the GPS62s but I'm surprised if it doesn't have a "simulate" (GPS receiver off) or similar mode. But if not, I'm afraid it's Garmin to blame.

Cheers, Alan.

Thanks, Alan.

I did the "split" operation but it is a nuisance that it happens. The unit was turned off for well over an hour after the walk - during what we on Liz's Walks for the Bewildered call our Aprés Stroll activity, a good pub lunch!

I think the answer must be to clear the current memory before commencing each walk, store the track after a walk, clear the memory again and again on getting home?

There are quite a few differences between the 62s and the old Etrex Venture!

Cheers - Keith

The answer seems to be to clear the current memory before and after recording a walk. That works.

The other thing, what I started this thread for, about how to import tracks and waypoints - I don't have to! Simply double-click on the relevant GPX file in the 62s and the items magically appear in Memory Map! Much easier.

To return to the original question: "I can import the saved Tracks into Memory Map but the Marks just don't make it - why is this?"

I also have a GPS62s and I haven't been able to work out how to save "Marks" which is incredibly annoying - I tend to use them to record where photos were taken.
