Hi,

I bought the firmware upgrade from Memory Map, so I received an SD card with the upgrade on it. I removed the 4Gb card, inserted the new card supplied by Memory Map, started up the 3500 and it went straight in to the usual top level menu - Maps, Apps, Photos etc. Not the menu described in the instructions sent with the SD card. I have no SD card reader so I can't see the file structure, but from other posts here it would seem as though that is the problem. What can I do? Why have Memory Map sent me an SD card with the wrong file structure?

Mike Whitley

mike.whitley,

As the MicroSD cards are mass produced, I suppose it is possible that one got missed from the copying process.
However I know for a fact that the cards 'should' work as I built the master card myself.

Please email support@memory-map.co.uk so that we can organise the card being returned for testing.

Thanks

Hi Mike,

I've now had the same issue on the card I ordered last week! I've even tried downloading the files from the memory map upgrade link on the website onto the card they sent and no joy with that route either.

I've emailed support for help and will update this post when I hear anything!

If there are any other experienced Memory Mappers who've had this problem and fixed it - your help would be much appreciated!

Hi Mike,

Update again...

...I just read another post that told me the instructions were incorrect for the downloaded way of doing it - I followed the new instructions which required moving the folders up a level and it worked fine.

So bottom line is that the card they sent you didn't work - and it wasn't the one-off Jason suggested as mine didn't either. If you get the card back and it doesn't work again, or have a spare microSD card from a Blackberry or the like you can spare, then connect it to your PC just as if you were going to Copy maps over to it and delete all the files on the card (NOT YOUR ORIGINAL CARD - the spare one you are using to upgrade).

Then download the ADV3500upgrade.zip from the memory map website. Extract these files - which creates a folder called ADV3500upgrade with all the other files within. Copy these files (serial.inf and 2 folders) over to the Card - and then put it in your Adventurer3500 and it will properly work.

Memory Map are a pretty Heath Robinson software company it would be fair to say! They launch a product with serious flaws, sell you microSD cards that don't work - and then provide inaccurate download instructions. It shouldn't be this hard!

Hope you get your card back all working without the need for all the above rigmarole.

Hi Justin, this was very useful. Followed your instructions to the letter and now have the firmware update. Thanks! Andrew

Well, after several weeks of waiting and a couple of phone calls to support I finally received another micro SD card this morning. I inserted it into the 3500 with trembling hands, switched it on and, lo and behold, it went into the expected menu! I followed the instructions supplied and everything worked! I was, I have to say, a bit surprised. Anyway, as some pansy literary bloke once said, all's well that ends well.

Hi,
Had the same issue with the SD card purchased from memory map - eventually I decided to download the upgrade directly and then did a comparison of the download against the SD card - found one file missing from the SD card. Did the upgrade successfully using the download version then sent the SD card back for a refund. (Didn't use the download route at first because I did not have a spare SD card)

Well I have downloaded the "ADV3500UPDATE.zip" and extracted it, copied the files (serial.inf & 2 folders) to the root of a blank (Formatted) MicroSD card and the GPS ADV 3500 only boots up to the main menu!

What is happening? This should not be a difficult process. I'm running MenuLauncher:V4.09 could this be the problem? Do I need to upgrade to something else first... if so where can I get previous versions?

Help!!
