Hello Memory Map.

I have been an memory map user since 2008.

I have an iPhone and an IPad. I'm using the same account on each device. The OS:50k GB works on both devices.
But I can't seem to activate my OS:25K selections on my iPad as well as iPhone. The iPad is saying that I need to purchase the more credits to activate the same map.
This page says that I can run it on 5 seperate devices: http://shop.memory-map.co.uk/acatalog/m ... lorer.html
This pdf says http://www.memory-map.co.uk/downloads/P ... 20-web.pdf that I can only run it on one PC and one IOS device.

Can you clarify please?

Cheers David

Hi David,

The first link you quote refers specifically to the license for the new "2012" maps. The second reference is for previous map releases (at least since the DMS mapping was introduced).

So (to avoid having to buy the same map area again) you would need to "migrate" the 1:25k maps to the iPad. But beware that this means the iPhone can no longer be used for any further downloads/updates. If you want to use the maps on both (and maybe more) devices then an "upgrade" (40% discount) to the 2012 maps might be the best option.

Cheers, Alan.

Hi Alan

Thanks for getting back to me.

These are 2012 maps.

I have upgraded them from the previous release.

Cheers David

Last week I bought the 2012 maps on my iphone assuming that I would be able to use them on my ipad as well.

It doesn't seem to be the case.

I seems you have to buy it twice. If you activate a square on your iphone it comes out your credit and if you want that same square on your ipad, you have to activate it out of your credit again......

I rang up MM and asked if I could get them on the ipad too, they said they don't own the maps and I don't own the maps. I license the use of the maps from OS through them, and if I want it on multiple devices I have to licence it multiple times.

All a bit unusual i think, just trying to work out now if its still more cost effective this way than to buying one of the other sets....

Sorry if I have got any of the above wrong MM.

(Fingers crossed I have miss understood something and I can have them on both with out buying twice..... I am a mac user so cant run the MM software anyway so mobile devices only.)

:(

There are two types of licenses for the 2012 OS maps. You can purchase on CD which gives you the full map and allows use on up to five devices. The other option is the download version which is purchased by square kilometer. This activation is limited to the activation of a total amount of area. If you have, for example, 25,000 sqkm of activation and activate 5,000 sqkm on five different devices, this uses you allotment (regardless of duplication of an area on more than one device). This is per the license agreement with the producer of the map.

Looking through again all the information seems to be there to back MM up in what they are saying, just the some of they way its said is mildly misleading.

Resource Platform Activations
OS 1:25,000 Explorer - 2012 Windows PC 753.7 sqkm
OS 1:25,000 Explorer - 2012 Mobile Device or SD Card 753.7 sqkm
Basic GPS Interface Any platform 5 times
Printing Any platform 5 times

The second line shows you have 753.7 sqkm of activation available to you from the purchase.

That's total activations pooled and available to any device on the account. Though if you cannot view the same maps on all devices from a single purchase/activation it really should be explained better.

Thats not wat it says on the page here http://shop.memory-map.co.uk/acatalog/m ... lorer.html

It says "Choose your own maps", "Buy credit", "Use on up to 5 devices"

It doesn't say anywhere use on 5 devices if you buy it on a CD.....

Its all very miss leading i feel on the website and should be made a lot clearer to avoid upset and confusion.

That said I think for me its still a better way to buy the maps.

Perhaps I am an unusual MM user in that I don't have a PC so don't want to buy a version on a CD with PC software I can't install and licensing for a PC maps I cant use.

Looking at it all, you pay double the price for the PC/Mobile license, compared to the Mobile only so that's no different to me buying credit for the iphone and ipad.

Just found 750sqkm of the old style 1:25k on my account so that's going to be activated on the ipad for now as and when.

Please do try to address the website and information on it to make it clearer for all.

Thanks
James

As you pointed out in your previous post, the standard features give you five activations (hence, five devices). This is, in fact, no true from the standpoint of all licenses now five you "resources" vice a full license on a single computer. As such, if you don't need printing (or GPS, etc.) on this computer, you can save that feature for another computer. In that way, if I use GPS on my laptop, but don't plan to print from the laptop, you have that feature to use on a desktop (where you are less likely to use the GPS feature).
