Correct you only mention the free app in your post

I to have Lake District 1:25000 on Disk. currently been used as a table top mat.

Ok Memory-Map. I fully understand you are at the mercy of Apple here. But do the decent thing - remove the links to the app store from your home page http://www.memory-map.co.uk/iphone/ and add a note explaining what the problem is.

For days I was trying the links and thought I was doing something wrong. Imagine my frustration when I found out I was not and that the problem is actually the fact your app does not comply with Apple's policies.

Regardless of where you say the blame is, you have a duty to your customers. If trains are cancelled because of the snow, the train companies don't tell you to talk to God to find out what is happening even though he caused the snow! You need to communicate the situation to your customers and explain exactly what you are doing to remedy the situation.

Now is not the time to bury your head in the sand and believe you are not responsible for the service your customers receive.

It would be good to get a response to this message as I see there has been no formal communication for some time now.

Many Thanks

Neil Oakley

I agree with Neil. I bought Memory-Map mapping specifically because I could transfer my maps to my iPad with the paid app. Memory-Map should at least put a message on the iPhone page on the web site explaining that it's currently not available.

My contract is with Memory Map.

i was given Memory Map as a gift for Christmas and purchased additional licence to use on the IPAD. All money down the drain.

All memory map can say its apples fault.

i look at the web site today and there is a Christmas gift item. What is going on.

Have you tried the link? It doesn't even work.

Maybe it's time we drew some publicity to this issue. There are plenty of respected journals publications and magazines regarding Walking, Hiking, Boating, Mountain biking and other outdoor pursuits that will be aware of and perhaps reviewed Memory Maps products. If Memory Map wont tell people and new customers whats going on then perhaps we should?

I spoke with Richard Chipman from Apple last Thursday.

The paid app was at that point approved for sale, but for some reason they had not yet put it back in the app store. This version has no access to any premium maps in the Digital Map Shop. It displays only free online maps and content that the user purchased elsewhere and copied to the iphone via itunes. The problem RC had with that build is there was still the account creation dialog in the software. I agreed with him that users who already owned the content on their PC would not need to create an account within the iphone app. So he asked me to take that dialog out and re-submit the app. He assured me the review process would be expedited and I would hear back from them on Monday. It is now Tuesday and I have not heard anything. Of course I am now chasing it up again.

So I fully expect the app will be approved and back on the store any minute now, or worst case in the next couple of days. And that is the way it has been every day for the last month! Every time Apple comes back with some incomprehensible and trivial objection, and the process repeats. Every time, we have fully complied and resubmitted the app the same day.

Fingers crossed!

Will this limit how useful the app is to apple users?

Yes! I am having a real hard time understanding how any of this is in the apple user's best interest. There is no point in asking Apple "why". They are enforcing a dogmatic policy that takes no account of individual circumstances, and we are just doing what we are told.

The only way to browse our Digital Map Shop will be with the Memory-Map software on PC or Android. But if you have purchased maps on CD or DVD, or one of the zipped download packages (available in NZ and Aus) you will be able to copy those maps directly to the app without needing the PC software.

The map size limit of 2GB has been lifted in this build, so many of the maps that had to be clipped in half using the PC software will now work without any modification.

It's a big shame, as I bought an iPad to use mm amongst other things. Sounds like there is a way around it (if the app ever gets back in the store) if we use it alongside a pc to download the maps?
