Upon searching for a town in France on the IGN 1:100k, I was taken to the place, but to the scale of 1:25k. As I don't have rights to this scale the screen was white. Is there a way to change to a search specifically to the map scales I actually own? Thanks

Hi,

No, AFAIK there is no "official" way to prevent this. We've complained (many times) that MM's automatic jump to the best (i.e. largest) scale is often NOT appropriate.

However, I do have an "unofficial" fix which you try entirely at your own risk. Also you might need a "Navigator" (3rd party maps) license to do this:

With the 1:25 k map displayed, select > Map > Route from Boundary and edit the name of the route (it will cover a large area) to something memorable (you may need it later). Alternatively, backup the .QCT file of the map elsewhere.

Create a closed route around the area of 1:25k map which you actually own (i.e. licensed) and use > Map > Boundary from Route.

Now, MM should only drop you into the 1:25k map if the area is displayable. Note that you will need to reverse the above procedure if you buy any more DMS mapping.

Cheers, Alan.
