GPS not activated

I have just bought a second hand 3500 of eBay.
When I try to use the device I get the message "license for GPS features not activated"
Is something illegal going on here?

Jumbojim,

Do you have a Memory-Map software licence yourself?
If not, you will need to purcahse one. I would suggest the OS 1:50K 2012 product @ £99 as this will give you full GB coverage at 1:50K for your PC and the ADV3500

But, how do I buy a MM licence?
Do I manage this feat by buying the micro SD card that you sell for about £20, or will it come with the 1.25k software that I would like to buy.

Jumbojim,

Did your ADV3500 not come supplied with a MicroSD card? If not, then you will need to purchase the pre-loaded 8GB we supply. You will then also need to purchase the relevant Memory-Map mapping that you require.

Yes it did come with an SD card, all loaded up with beautiful software, but as it is not licensed to me it is illegal is it not?

Thats right I'm afraid. You will need to purchase your own Memory-Map product in order to obtain a valid licence for PC and the ADV3500

Hi,

AFAIK the license comes with any MM maps that you purchase (not with the SD card). So buying credits for the DMS or a map from MM's outlet shop should be sufficient. But the new license conditions for the 2012 maps does seem more generous, so is certainly worth considering.

Jumbojim,

Alan is correct. The best way to obtain the licence would be to purchase a Memory-Map PC product, as these will give you the ability to activate the PC as well as the MicroSD card.

As the OS 2012 product gives the user enough activations for 5 devices, it is bar far the most cost effective way of obtaining a licence.

But could you please tell me one more thing?
If the new user lincense is encluded with the mapping software, what is the point of paying 4 times the market price for the MM micro SD card?
What is so special about that SD card?
