I want to buy some 1-50 mapping of Belgium from the Digital Map Shop ... I understand how to capture the area etc BUT I don't have a base map that enables me to draw the box/shape that I want ... what do I do please?

(I have UK OS 1-50 and IGN France 1 - 250 - can't find a "Europe-wide" map on either of them)

On the desktop, zoom right in on any map, click on DMS in the toolbar & you should get a popup listing all the maps available for that screen area. There should be a Northern Hemisphere or Western Europe base map among them.

Yebbut - I don't have a map that starts out with anywhere near where I want to capture ?? ... the method you describe does bring up a "Westen Europe" map ... BUT only for the area I'm looking at ..... I want Belgium .... even trying it with Dover in my view it doesn't stretch as far as Belgium.

Hi Rob,

Can't you just drag the map, or pan it with the cursor keys? The map should download as you scroll, but even if there's only a "white field" you should still be able to use the Data popup to position a suitable GR at the centre of screen, zoom in and DMS should offer a suitable overview map to download.

There always used to be World East and World West maps to get started with.

Cheers, Alan.
