Hi,

Yes, if they are v5 maps (sold from late 2005 onwards). The Ordnance Survey license does not permit earlier versions of maps to run on later (v5) software.

However, because older maps (including many v5) are .QCT format they must be "cut" into files of no more than about 400MB each to use on the Adventurer, so the GB can only be used as 10 - 12 "regional" maps. The method is well documented in this forum.

It's worth checking the cheapest you can obtain the all GB (1:50k) map "bundled" with the Adventurer (it might not cost much more). The map included on the SD card is in the newer .QC3 format which is a single continuous map (file) of the whole GB. BUT the .QC3 map is "license-managed" and locked to the card, so it cannot be copied, even to a larger SD card for the same Adventurer.

Cheers, Alan.

well thats good news thanks alan,

sorry for being a bit thick but can you now just confirm to that when i upload the maps to my new adventurer, they are kept on an onboard hard drive and there is no need for any cards to be used.

i persume that i would only requires cards to update the unit with say...satnav for the car???

this would leave me being able to purchase the bare minimum of units and upload the v5 maps i already have? is that correct?

lastly is it possible to update for free my existing maps?

it's been a long time since i used them.

Hi,

No, all the maps are stored on the single removeable micro-SD card (2GB or 4GB supplied). They're physically very small so IMHO it's not a good idea to change them "in the field". That's one reason why I wouldn't get the car naviagtion pack, those maps are also locked to the card so you're limited to how many maps you can store without having to swap cards.

No, certainly not a free map upgrade, but MM sales might offer you a discounted price (perhaps to the new .QC3 license-managed mapping) on return of your current CD/DVDs.

Cheers, Alan.
