Hi there

Using the latest version of MM, if I export an overlay as a CSV and then import it, something is wrong, Some dates & times show incorrectly for tracks when compared to known dates for them. Opening this CSV file in Microsoft XL 2003, it gives an error " file not loaded completely ". As a result of this I cannot import my overlays in MM 5.1.3 on my laptop which I take on holiday. Any suggestions ?

I would phone but cannot get home before the phone lines close.

thanks Roy

Are you trying to transfer overlays from a newer to older version of Memory Map ?

Hi,

Yes, my first thought also: .MMO files are NOT backwards compatible from v5.4.x to v5.1.3, but I believe that .CSV files should be OK.

However, there have been reports that (some) files saved via the "Properties" window can be corrupt. Have you tried saving a file by right-clicking in the map?

Also, try viewing the .CSV file in a text editor (such as Notepad) to see if anything looks incorrect (e.g. quotation marks can cause problems).

Cheers, Alan.

Hi all

Yes I know that the .MMO files are version dependant but a CSV file is a CSV file and should open in any version. My problem is that with an overlay being displayed, then OVERLAY - EXPORT ALL and SAVE AS TYPE *.CSV I get a file called Myroutes.csv. This file does not import correctly back into Memory Map, therefore the issue is with the software.

thanks Roy

Forgot to mention that there is no option to save by right clicking on a map.

Thanks Roy

Could you send a copy of the file to support@memory-map.com? It sounds (from the message you got in your earlier post) that the file may be too large to open as an Excel file (something like 85,000 records). Is that possible?

Thanks for the clue, I did not think of this as a possible issue because the problem only occured when I moved over to a new Pc, but I am now investigating this as a possibility by dividing the original .MMO file into two smaller .MMO files and two associated .CSV files by using the export visible command. I will let you know the outcome.

The row limit for XL 2003 is 2^16 which is 65536, as it is a 16 bit application. I hit this problem when writing a macro to convert the Ordnance survey OSTNO2 data files into a searchable data file, there are 876951 data records.

By the way, I spoke to someone in technical support earlier and was told that to export use the .GPX format because I would need the profesional features to use the .CSV format, this advice according to your website is wrong and I nearly purchased something that would not have been of any use at all.

thanks Roy

Hi there

I can confirm that the limit of 65,536 is being exceeded when creating .CSV files using 5.4.2. I opened an overlay file .MMO and it shows all the tracks correctly, then I unchecked the last six tracks that have been added and exported only the remaining visible. This exceeded the limit in XL yet it did not using the last version of MM. The obvious difference looking at the .CSV file is that no IC02 Icon information is shown at the begining of the file, it starts with TK02 tracks !

thanks Roy

Just repeated the exercise but took out another twenty tracks and this time the XL limit was not exceeded, but still no Icon info. There must be an issue with this version of MM, is it worth going back to a previous version ?

thanks Roy

Hi there

I am still looking at what has gone wrong and for some reason when MM 5.4.2 created the CSV file it added three lines, replicating the Lat & Lon but inserting a 0 for the epoch time stamp. So on import it displays the current date and on large CSV files the additional lines were enough to push the number of lines that XL can handle past the 65536 limit.

Another strange problem I am currently trying to resolve is that when I export a single track, with incorrect Date & Time stamp with no Icons etc as a CSV file and then import this track into MM 5.1.3 the created date & time are wrong, as expected. So editing this CSV file in XL, the correct Epoch stamp for the 1st May 2010 @ 14:40 is 1272724800, which I enter ino the first line that is designated as a track point, ie TP03. I save this file and then import it back into MM. I now display the correct date but the time has had an hour added, it shows 15:40.

So what is happening with MM 5.1.3 running under windows 7 ? I have turned off automatic clock adjustments so the system clock shows GMT.

thanks Roy
