Hi Len,
The length of a walk should be easy enough to find in the track properties (on Adventurer or PC). The current Elevation may be an option (tap-hold) in the "GPS : Position" panel (I don't have an Adventurer, but it's in the PDA version).
MM doesn't provide an "accumated ascent/descent" figure, probably because the GPS system generally does not give sufficiently accurate data (at least for walking and some cycling). Garmin GPSs which offer the feature generally use their inbuilt barometric altimeter for the calculation.
You can import the track into MM on PC, then convert track to route and the Route properties contain accumulated ascent/descent. However, this is calculated from the map elevation data which also can lead to large errors. I was reading a PGPSW forum complaint just this morning about how inaccurate the Satmap is for this data. ;)
Cheers, Alan.
