Please excuse me if I have misunderstood or missed some information, but I have a question regarding how to license the v5 maps on my android phone. You'll note from my usernanme that I'm not technically-minded at all...

I have copied my maps to the download folder on the phone, having already installed the app (following the instructions on your help page)

So, I open the app, select the map (GB OS:50k) and it displays the map on my screen, with my position indicated by the GPS.

I have not purchased a classic map compatibility license, nor am I prompted to do so.

There is only a .qct .qed and .mmi file in the OS50 sub-folder on the phone.

My question is: am I using an evaluation license of some kind, which will expire? Obviously I wish to comply with MM's licensing system. If I need to purchase the compatibility license, how do I do this please?

Thanks in advance.

Press the Menu button, then Settings > Map Licenses > Show Licenses. If you have a demo license, it will show the expiration date there, and you can tap on it to by the full license.

Thanks for the reply Richard. When I click on Map Licenses, I'm prompted to sign in, so I enter my username and password, and click on enter, but this just takes me back to the map display - I don't see any further menu items? I am using the credentials that I log in with on my laptop, which seems to work ok.

Aha, until I selected "More Maps" from the Maps menu, and entered the Digital Map Shop, the "Show Licenses" option did not appear on the Map Licenses menu. Now this option is listing the Classic Compatibility License, with a prompt to purchase it. But my OS 50k map still works fine, even though it does not have a license listed. Does it sound like my MM installation is OK?

Could you please send an email to support@memory-map.com with either your user ID or the email you used to set up your account so I can look at your account? It may shed some light on the issue.

Maybe its me, but nearly £35 just to use maps you have already bought and paid for is a bit steep. I purchased mm for my PC and paid for the maps I have. Then you tell me that the process has to start again because of the fact its now being used through an android app. Thats unfair in my view. Charge for the app by all means but charging for using existing paid for maps is insulting.

If you have encrypted maps (newer QCT/QC3 maps), there is no need for the classic map license. This license allows the use of older maps (purchased when there was no Android app) with the newer devices without having to purchase a new set of maps. Users purchasing new maps do not have to pay for the app, people who are using new functionality (an Android device) with their old maps are paying for the added functionality for their old license.

When I have upgraded my PC over the years, from Win98, 2000, XP and then to windows 7, I was able to reactivate my Memory Map software and continue to use my maps as before without being charged. This case is no different in my view except for the new piece of software that is the app.

In reality the 'droid app is where you incurred your cost. So charge us for that and not try and force us to pay again for our already purchased maps.

The truth is there are a few apps out there that will happily use the maps I already have without trying to charge me for the privilege. Others charge for the app (some are free), it seems far more sensible to me that you charge for your app too. This of course will mean you have to be competitive in the market place ....

If you did this, which maps I use then becomes irrelevant to you and you can stop treating long time customers like they broke in and stole your software.

If you do not purchase the license, you have lost no functionality or usage from the package you originally purchased.
