Hi i have loaded memory mapp app onto my ICS tablet running kernel 3.0.8+ and am trying to get it to talk to a usb GPS dongle via a Prolific chipset serial to usb interface (Pl2303). I can see that the GPS has acquired satellites and is sending data through the ttyS0 com port. But i cant find anywhere to point it to the memory map app. Any ideas please?

Unlike the Windows version which can use a stream from a COM port, the Android app is looking for data fed through the Android's location service.

ah so app doesnt function like traditional memory map for windows or ce. Perhaps it could be explained in the spec as I purchased usb gps as I thought it would interface with memory map. A lot of people are buying tablets and will probably want to use the memory map platform. An app for android would be most useful.

A large percentage of the Android devices have integrated GPS, but you can also use a Bluetooth GPS with most units. There are a number of apps which will use the Bluetooth input as the signal for the Android's location service which would then be used by Memory-Map.

Got it working by using usbGPS4Droid apk wich points data stream from usb0 to internal gps location which memory map app picks up. Works fine
