Very excited, just got my unit back with the new updates :D

Firstly well done for such a fast turn around. I took the unit to the PO on Friday, for delivery yesterday morning. Got it back lunchtime today - so upgraded and posted back in the same afternoon. That is seriously good service. THANK YOU.

OK to business! Obviously haven't been able to fully test the updates yet. My interest lay in the screen lock and I am happy to report this is indeed present and seems simple to operate - when on mapping mode, press the central key, and on the subsequent menu which held screen brightness, return to main menu, etc, there is now a screen lock option. Press this once, and the screen locks. It also dims the display, which will save battery life. Once locked the screen is a little dark, so you can just about see the map, although for my 'poor' eyes I'll probably unlock the screen if I need to view the map clearly. This is also simple - press the central key once and it offers an 'unlock' key in the middle of the screen, which needs depressing or it will remain locked - bit like a mobile phone.

If I was being picky, this screen lock is a little crude and it would have been nice to have seen the screen a little bit more clearly in the locked mode for reference purposes. However these are only minor points adn I'm am very pleased for the major asset of not moving the screen miles every time and take it in and out of the case. In fact I could now store the unit in my pocket / rucksac.

The update does prove MM dedication to produce a market contender. I hope that development will continue following further user feedback and that the ADV3500 becomes the market leader it could so easily be.

Thanks Again. Happy mapping!

Hi everyone,

Just to back up pagsuk, mine was sent saturday morning, guarenteed delivery 1 pm monday, returned today 1.15pm, thanks for an unbelievable turnaround memorymap and jason.
I have been fortunate to have had v4.12 for the last 2 weeks after a repair to the unit, but no screenlock, anyway all the suggested fixes by memorymap work brilliantly and it was a pleasure to use, now i have the screenlock, can,t wait to use it.
As pagsuk suggests, you just press the main button on the front and you are presented with a screen of 6 boxes, these are:-
reset trip
screen less bright
screen brighter
sleep gps off
lock screen
main menu
theres also an additional info area for the trip info and average.

The sreenlock works without fault, i tried it at least 25 times, the sleep gps off also works without fault.
So a workable screenlock at last, and may i take the oppotunity to thank jason and memorymap.
Be aware that the screen dims to its lowest, no backlight, while in lock screen which is probably unreadable, but i personally don,t see that as a problem, its such a quick action to get the screen back up, just press main button and press unlock on screen, the map is presented instantly.
Be aware i have not tried the adventurer on a walk, but feel comfortable that the unit will now kick a--se.

Hi all;

Just to reinforce the above comments, took mine to the Post Office tea time Friday, got it back lunchtime today.

I have tested the screen lock on a car journey around the local country roads. Worked perfectly as described above and every time I unlocked the screen it appeared instantly with the position icon still in the middle of the screen and the position was always spot on accurate.

I will give it a good test on a four day break I have booked in the Lake District in two weeks time and will post my comments asap afterwards.

For now I can only say it seems to work perfectly and thank you to MM, Jason and the people at the upgrade centre.

Many thanks to all
David :P

Just received a new unit that a retailer advertised as being with 4.12v update. It was not though. Under 'information' on the unit it states 4.07 for menu software. So looks like I'll have to send this new unused unit to memory map for the upgrade. Fingers crossed it will not take long and be returned quickly as the others document above. Wish there was a downloadable upgrade available though now.

It's worth the few days wait :) And the guys seem to be turning them around pretty quick too!

I am very tempted to send mine off now. But I think I will wait until the 'do it yourself' update is available. Probably useful to have a report on that on here also.

I don't plan any serious walking for a few weeks so, assuming the update installer is 'on track' for release in a week or two, then I can wait.

I'd also love an update on any news of the downloadable firmware/software update. Would be easier than returning a brand new unit ;)

Hi all,

Just managed to squeeze a 6km walk in today, so a small route to put the 3500 through its paces, at first there are no noticable changes when viewing a route, activating the route etc etc, your still presented with the two boxes when following route, but the important one for me is the direction arrow button, the other one i tend to close,
The previous problems reported with this, now seem a distant memory, its function worked without fault, i wasn,t even walking fast due to our terrier just having been spayed, i spent a little time monitoring its function and am happy with the outcome.
The second half of my walk was devoted to playing with the screenlock, locking the unit for various lengths of the route proved that the track as memorymap stated was complete, no problems there.
I never used the sleepmode, so can give no opinnion on its function at the moment. I,ve tried looking in all areas of the 3500 and can find no other changes at least visually, apart from the volume button, although still the same visually as before, where you have a touchtone on and off command and unit volume +/- ..... the latter turns off to the final bar, in otherwords it still leaves some volume to hear, if that makes sense. maybe it was like that before the upgrade, i just didn,t notice.
So in conclusion, and not a very long walk my unit at least does all that i ask, obviously a long walk or ride will give a better result, i,m also sure the screenlock will see a very big increase in battery life, depending on its use.

Please be aware this short review was record of my unit which is now running menulauncher v4.12 and version 5.4.5 build1118.
