I'm just wondering exactly how the Screen Lock function works. It seems that if you have the GPS Lock (blue padlock) button set to ON before activating the Screen Lock then the screen is still being redrawn. Clearly, the backlight is off, but it looks as though that is the case, although it's difficult to be sure.

On the other hand, if the GPS Lock is OFF when you activate the screen lock, then it may well be that the screen doesn't get redrawn until you Unlock it again.

So I guess I have two questions. Can anyone confirm that hypothesis? If it is the case, is it likely to have any significant power drain.

In other words, is it worth making sure that the GPS Lock is OFF before switching on the screen lock?

I thought the lock was to keep your postion in the centre of the screen

Taken from the manual -

As soon as you enter Map mode the GPS will begin acquiring a GPS lock. When a lock has been acquired the Padlock icon will turn solid.
When the button is solid, tap the button and your location will be displayed on the map with the Position icon. As you move, the position icon will stay in the centre of the screen and the map
will scroll underneath automatically

The GPS will begin locking onto your position straight away. When a lock has been
acquired the Padlock icon will illuminate. Tap the icon to jump to your current
location and display it on the map. Your position is displayed with the Position
icon.

Exactly so. Which means that when you move, the screen is redrawn to keep your position centred. This is not the case if you don't have the GPS button ON; the screen stays where it is.

So what I'm asking is whether the above rules apply when the Screen Lock is ON. In other words, even though the backlight is off, is it possible that the screen is still being redrawn?
