I have been using MM for several years and have used the paid application up until recently very successfully on my iPad Mk 1 in conjunction with an external GPS receiver connected via bluetooth. It used to work great with the UK 1:250000 CAA charts for flying.

Recently however, for some reason there are 2 problems that have appeared and they are driving me nuts!

I purchased the CAA charts on CDs a couple of years ago and installed them on my PC, synched them to the iPad and all worked great. Now for some reason the current position won't lock to the centre of the screen even with a valid GPS signal with wi-fi off, or the selected CAA chart won't remain on screen with wi-fi on. The only way I can get the current position to lock is with wi-fi on and as soon as I select a CAA chart, it flashes on screen and is immediately replaced by the OS map with position lock. Trying to select a valid CAA chart repeats the process and it flashes on screen, only to be replaced by the OS map again. To get the CAA chart to remain on screen, I have to turn off wi-fi, delete the OS map, select CAA chart, but then the current position won't lock.

I'm using V5 CAA charts, XP Pro SP3 on the PC, latest iTunes (was using a year old version, so maybe that's a clue??), iPad V3.2 OS. I tried updating the MM app about a year ago, but similar map selection bugs forced me to revert to the previous version. OS3.2 won't allow me to upgrade to the latest revision of the MM app, so I am at a loss. The really annoying thing is that it all used to work great. I want to update the CAA charts to the latest version, but won't until I know everything works as intended.

It almost sounds like there is a calibration problem with the CAA chart. Has the chart been modified in any way? If you place a mark on the CAA chart, does it show the proper position?

No, the charts are exactly as loaded off the CDs and copied onto the iPad. I've deleted the app off the iPad, restored it from the PC, reloaded the charts and it's exactly the same. I flew on Tuesday evening and apart from having to manually scroll the chart because of the lack of lock, it was spot on. The position indicator on the chart is red and indicating lock by the spot in the middle flashing, but the lock button at the bottom of the screen does nothing!

Well, any more thoughts to help me resolve this problem please?

I may have been able to duplicate the problem, but only under very specific conditions. Can you give me coordinates for the general area of the map you are flying? Is this happening near map boundaries?

The flight was around Sywell, Northamptonshire in the UK, SP 81561 71092 but it doesn't matter where I am, the same problem persists. It doesn't matter which chart I select, the same thing happens.

Does this happen only on the CAA charts?

I only have CAA charts on the iPad, apart from the OS one that downloads by default when the wi-fi is enabled. I get screen lock as it's supposed to, but the selected CAA chart won't remain visible and is immediately replaced by the OS map. Basically I can either have current position locked to screen centre only on the OS map but only with wi-fi on, OR wi-fi off selected CAA chart remains visible but no centre lock !!

Any more ideas on this please? It's been over a week since your last post.

I have updated the iOS to 5.1.1 and the Memory Map programme to the latest 1.5.5-304 and it is still the same!
It's been 3 weeks since the last contact from the support team, so what's going on?
I don't think there's anything else I can do apart from bin the programme and get something different!
