Has anyone tried replacing a battery in a 2800? This is very useful for long walks away from power sockets, the ability to take a spare battery or two, or for when the battery loses its ability to charge (as they eventually do).

I've not opened mine up yet, so I don't know if it takes a battery that's available to buy - the RoadAngel 7000 required you to send it back for replacement.

The ADV2800 is charged via the mini USB so for longer battery life options are:

1. ADV2800 Extended Battery Pack - Silicone case with built-in high capacity battery more than doubles the battery life of standard Adventurer 2800 GPS - See MM part number: GPS-ADV-2800-05

2. Other 3rd party USB chargers - eg Power Monkey range

It's not possible for the user to replace the battery in ADV2800 but we may offer this service in future as a 'repair service'

I've had a Road Angel for some time for which I've bought 1:50000 maps of almost the whole of the UK, putting them on a 4GB SD (not SDHC) card. The system works well, except that the battery goes flat very quickly, which severely limits its utility. ("Battery level extremely low, recharge immediately.") What I have always wanted to do was to take a spare battery with me but the Road Angel battery was not replaceable, so I did my best with a Power Monkey, but I really don't like having to take a second gizmo in my pocket with me.

The new Adventurer 2800 looks very attractive, particularly since I can presumably load my existing Landranger maps on to it. But then I find that on the new machine you can't replace the batteries either.

I find this absolutely amazing. MM must have had plenty of complaints about the inconvenience, to put it no stronger, of not being able to replace the battery on the Road Angel.

Why, oh why, have you made exactly the same mistake again? Can someone tell me? Anyone who sold a camera with a built-in nonreplaceable battery would get zero sales, and deservedly so.
