I have a system running Windows 7 and Memory-Map 4.2.2 and 5.4.2. Both run very well apart from the initial loading of overlay/property information which can take up to a minute. On my older, slower XP machine the time was a few seconds at most! Any suggestions?

Do you know how large the overlay data files are?
You can find this by going into your DOCUMENTS > MAP OVERLAYS directory

Thanks

Hmmm, that shoudlnt really slow the Memory-Map softwrae down that much.
What happens if you move the userdata.mmo files to another location on yoru PC, and then open Memory-Map?

Thanks

Jason,

It doesn't find the overlays(!), opens the map list and then loads the selected map quickly. Much as when I've closed it with the properties not visible, then re-opened it. I've also tried importing the overlays off a backup external drive - equally slow. I know you don't support MM4 but it behaves in exactly the same way: quick to load maps, slow to load properties. Any more thoughts?

Pete.

Jason,

I've watched the Windows Resource Monitor as MM loads. When I click on Properties the mmnav.exe processor usage goes to 50%, and mmnav.exe is shown as not responding. After about a minute the properties load, the cpu usage drops, and the status returns to "running".

What does mmnav go off to do for a minute?!

Pete.

I get a very similar issue in Windows 7 64-bit. My overlay is less than 3 mb, and during startup CPU usage never goes above 31%, yet MM wanders off for a minute or thereabouts before coming coming back. Never had the problem before.

I will do some tests with this, but there are so many variables in the process it is hard to nail down. The makeup of your overlay file (what type of overlays), the concentration of the overlays on the visible map, the scale and zoom level of the map, and the video capabilities of the computer all play in the speed at which it loads. If either of you could send me a sample of your overlay file to support@memory-map.com, I will take a look at it.

After some off-forum emails, the issue has been referred to the development team to see if it is a Windows 7 compatibility issue.

Reducing the overlay size helps a bit, but not as much as one would expect.
