Hi,

We bought a memory map 2800 almost a year ago. After we got over the initial issues caused by lack of instructions, that's mostly been good but just recently has started failing us. A couple of weekends ago we went for a few days in a big city and it wasn't picking up any signal (i.e lots of tall buildings). OK we thought, we can handle that. Tall buildings no good.

Then we moved to more non central part of the city with very few tall buildings around. Occasionally it would pick up something for a second or two but again pretty much useless.

On Saturday we went out into countryside near home. No buildings anywhere nearby. A bit cloudy and overcast though. And very very variable signal again. It managed to pick up a signal maybe three minutes each hour. If the cloud cover disappeared then it looked to get a bit better but nothing like 100%.

Sunday was a 30 mile bike ride where we took the gps with us. Open countryside and better weather with only occasional cloud cover. The track recorded by the unit shows that it was picking up a signal about 75% of the time for the first 9 miles, but then cut out completely for the rest of the ride.

So, the questions. Are these issues common? Does everyone get days like these? Or is there something wrong with it? If so, what can we do?

Given a reasonably clear sky, I have never had that problem.

RobInBath,

It sounds like the internal GPS chip has a loose connection. As such please go HERE and fill in the hardware support form

Thanks
