Ok, I know the unit has to fix onto satellites before it can find where you are but surely it doesn't take 4 1/2 hours and still not get a fix .

Sunny day today in the peak district , clear skies no tree cover clear view of the sky .

Finds 3 satellites at the most with no fix , at one stage it had all 12 satellites shown but none green .

Getting more and more frustrated with this unit , especially as the iPhone with memory map free software was up and running in 30secs

Any ideas ...???? :( :(

Hi,

Were you stationary at the time? Was the antenna facing the sky (i.e not buried in a pocket or rucksack) and are you sure there was not any possibile nearby interference source such as a mobile phone, PDA or even another GPS? If all answers are Yes, then we have to assume the unit is faulty.

If you were moving (even at walking speed) then the GPS system can take much longer to "acquire" a position. The general rule is to remain stationary until the GPS shows a stable position (ideally with more than 4 satellites "green"). But 4 hours seems excessive unless moving at tens of mph without any significant breaks.

Cheers, Alan.
