Can anybody help please?

I purchased a 2800 with the full GB version of memory map. I have followed all the instructions and read several forum posts in relation to set-up, however, I get the message on my PC screen saying 'GPS: cannot open com port' I have gone through all the suggested help and support for this problem but nothing has worked. The computer recognises when the 2800 is connected and when I look at the SD card drive on the computer the maps and routes I have created are all there, however, when I look at the overlay screen on my 2800 none of the routes are showing on it. I know the routes and maps I am creating are nowhere near the maximum dowload size so am confused as to why they wont send to the 2800 when they are showing as being on the card??

Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

I am a bit rusty on this but don't think that you send things to a 2800 via a com port. Make sure you are reading the correct posts.

Hi,

Open the GPS menu and select : Manufacturer : None. The Adventurer doesn't connect via this menu.

Have you found, downloaded and read the Extended User Manual?

Cheers, Alan

Thank you all,

I tried the suggested help re the manufacturer settings but it still does exactly the same. All the routes are showing on the SD card but not reading on my 2800.

I have the manual downloaded and thought I had followed everything to the latter, Im pretty certain its 'user error' somewhere along the line and no doubt I am missing something really basic, I shall keep trying.

Thank you all for your help.

Reading your original post, I think you are missing the "open the files" step.

Once you have transferred your routes or other overlay files to the SD card, disconnect it from your PC, start up MM on the 2800 and then select Overlays -> open.

You should then see your files on the SD card, select them individually to load them into MM.

[ I think the "COM Port" message is a red-herring, that results from you trying to access the 2800 from the PC via a USB or Async port, that is intended for when you are running MM on a PDA ]

Hi,

I'm not an Adventurer user myself but I believe that fix is concerned with the message appearing on the Adventurer's screen not in the PC software (as here). Also, I believe you have a different problem to the OP's (two different problems).

Cheers, Alan.

Well I have managed to sort my problem out, the solution is as follows. . . careful, its technical!!

open settings, then maps on the 2800 device. Next to list of maps click REFRESH!!! . . . . . . . . . i told you it was technical!!

I felt a bit silly when it worked but, unless i missed it somewhere I dont recall reading it so im sure there will be people with the same issue.

Thanks again for all your replys

I did exactly the same thing when I downloaded a map for the first time!
