I accidently uploaded a map section to the wrong part of my 2800. Before I go deleting it I want to make sure that I am not deleting something that I should not. These seem to be the files and an explanation of what bit means which would be a great help for the future.
dms.gb os25x.QC3
dms.gb os25x
dms.gb os25x qed

I would really like to know what these files are and if I need to delete all of them.
Thanks
Bri

Hi Brian,

Windows has probably "hidden" the extension of the middle file, which is probably .QCT (you can set Windows NOT to "hide extensions of known file types").

For the old style (CD/DVD, etc.) maps .QCT files contain the main map image. For Digital Map Shop maps, the .QCT file is a small "pointer" file and the map image is contained in the .QC3 file. When you download or transfer an additional area of a particular DMS map the .QC3 file should grow in size.

.QED files contain Elevation Data for the map and there also can be a .MMI file which contains the Placenames Index. All these files should have the same name before the extension and must be in the same folder.

If you have accidentally copied these files to an incorrect folder on the Adventurer, then yes it should be safe to delete them. However, if in doubt, you could always move them back to a temporary location on your PC until you're sure that nothing is wrong.

Cheers, Alan.

Magic reply as usual Alan. Thank you. I have printed it off to add to my users manual for future reference too.

Bri

PS. All sorted it was exactly as you said Alan and the spare files successfully deleted. Thanks again.

Bri
