Why oh why are DMS maps and purchased DVD maps provided in different formats (i.e MM is QCT but DMS is QC3). This effectively means that MM are preventing us from merging maps purchased on DVD with those downloaded from the DMS.

I recently bought an Adventurer 2800 wihich came with all of the GB National Parks 1:50000 maps and 10,000 sq km of DMS maps. I naively downloaded some 6,700 sq km of the area around the Lake District using these DMS map credits (my home area), believing that I could merge the downloaded area with the supplied Lake District National Park. BUT no, it is not possible becaue the map files are in a different format.

Could someone from MM please explain WHY this is the case. If we, as PAYING customers, wish to have a seamless display of the OS mapping for the UK, then we have to either purchase all the maps on DVD OR all the maps from DMS. If you buy maps from DMS then they cannot be merged with anything other than other DMS maps.

Not sure about anyone else but I find this wholly unacceptable!!!

Just stumbled on your seemingly unanswered query. I too followed this route with lack of sucess and have bought DVD with all Uk 1:50K landranger which I have bben able to load onto my A2800 only by dividing it up into 17 differnt maps. Now trying to find a way to move seamlessly from one to another adjoining/overlapping map. I've posed the query elsewhere on this forum and hope some bright spark can enlighten me.
But I'm disapointed no one has bothered to respond to you (unless you have had a satisfactory answer elsewhere?)

The CD/DVD and DMS file formats are not compatible and a merge facility them would make the License Management impossible. DMS maps can only be installed on one PC and one Mobile Device, CD/DVD maps may be installed on two of each.

As Roy has observed, on mobile devices, the CD/DVD map files can be only up to 200 - 400MB but the DMS format files can be up to 4GB (i.e. the whole GB at 1:50k). If it is important to you to have "seamless" maps, particularly on a mobile device, then you should contact the sales dept for a quote to upgrade all your CD/DVD maps to the DMS format.

Thanks for that reply. It sems I purchased my A2800 a few weeks too early with the new due to come out very soon. Perhaps I'll be able to buy an upgrade as you suggest to make my A2800 of some use for a round the UK tour! Nevermind I've already spent £100 more than if if I had waited a few weeks (If i had known! Good hindsight here!) to get the whole of Landranger 50K!
