Hi, My licence says that I can download "USGS Topo Maps, any state"; how do I do this or California? Pete

Open a basemap and move it so you can see California on the screen. Select the Digital Map Shop and you should see the USGS California maps shown in the map list. Pick one of these and you should be asked to activate it.

From the Digital Map Shop, you can select the WORLD (NORTHERN HEMISPHERE) map. Then, when you have the US in view, you could use the DeLorme L8-L12 USA maps for more detail. These are all free.
