Hi,

I have three DMS map files on my computer OS 1:25k, OS 1:50k & OS Street view they are all used on Memory-Map European Edition and my A2800.

my question is relating the file size of these maps, currently the OS 1:25k is 7.3GB. OS 1:50k is 2.2GB and Street view is just under 1GB (These file sizes are on my PC only). on the A2800 files sizes are 117MB, 94MB & 950MB respectively.

1> What is the maximum size they will get to if I were able to download the complete files?

2> What is the maximum size of the qc3 file that can be used on the A2800? (I note that Street view is very slow in loading).

3> What is the best Micro SD card to use?

Glen

Hi Glen,

Yes, I would have been interested in an "official" answer from TS. I'm not a DMS user, but in the absence of any other reply:

AFAIK the file size(s) for any specific area is the same whether in .QC3 (DMS) or .QCT (CD/DVD) format and on either a PC or Mobile Device. The map files use a (lossless) compression so the exact MB per area depends on the amount of detail in the map. Are you sure about your "7.3GB" file? The largest file that MM can accept is said to be 4GB (and certainly would have to be if the storage uses the FAT32 filing system).

1> For the whole GB, the total file sizes of 1:50k, 1:25k and 1:10k (StreetView) are approximately 3.5GB, 12GB and 18GB respectively. There may be a further requirement of a few percent for the .QED (Elevation Data) and .MMI (Placenames Index) "sidecar" files.

2> Somewhere on this forum the maximum file size is given as 4GB.

3> According to Jason the maximum card size for the Adventurer is 16GB. Personally, I buy from the cheapest reputable UK/Channel Isles based Internet supplier, usually Play.com. Faster cards might give some slight benefit when writing via a card reader (but probably not in the Adventurer).

Cheers, Alan.

OS 1:25K Full GB is 8.6GB in .QC3 format, OS 1:50K Full GB is 2.2GB in .QC3 format, and OS StreetView Full GB is 9.9GB in .QC3 format

4GB is the maximum file size on the Adventurer 2800 that we have tested.

The Adventurer 2800 can use micro sd cards up to 16GB. I cant say I have seen any difference between the makes of cards for data transfer speeds.

Thanks
