Hi

Someone recently bought me a new Garmin etrex 30 ..... Is it possible to load my Memory Map OS Map of the Lake District 1 to 25k on it or am I going to have to purchase a Garmin Map from them ??

There is virtually nothing on the net or the garmin site about loading other OS maps onto the device

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Hi Paul,

That's because the Ordnance Survey (License Conditions) do not permit it. AFAIK all licensees are required to encrypt their map files.

I'm afraid you will have to buy the mapping from Garmin.

Cheers, Alan.

With some work, it is possible to make Custom Maps for Garmin devices like my Oregon and your etrex. (Google for Garmin custom maps, and you'll find some information).

One method (apparently, although I've not tried it) is to scan your paper map and save as a .jpg, then georeference it in Google Earth and save as a .kmz file for use in your device.

Another method is to import your .qct into GlobalMapper or similar program, and export a .kmz file.

Dales.
