Hi, I bought this new cd to replace an old memory map v.5, with a view to licensing for use on an android device. I uninstalled the old software and installed the new version on cd. It appears to have downloaded correctly, as I can access the maps on the desktop. However, having followed the instructions received in the installation guide leaflet (which came with the cd) I appear to have reached an impasse! Eg. when I access "web" and "check for updates" it says "application not found." Then, when I access "help>Licence Management" and sign in to my account (without problem) and click "activate" nothing happens. Nb. When I initially installed the new cd I was not given the option of activating it ie. by entering licence no. My new product is showing on my account history.
Regards,
John.

I show that you have activated the map from the CD. I also show that you have activated the 1:50k download version. These are two different licenses, so when you open the map, please ensure you are opening the one with GB in the name (the full map).

Hi there, and thanks for your prompt reply. I do not understand what you mean by saying that I have activated a download version. I have not knowingly done this! I have only ever activated my original v5 maps and then attempted to do this with my new edition. However, I have previously opened the full GB map (showing as 2.98gb in the map list) with the results as previously described in my first post. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the new dvd! I went through set up wizard etc. and successfully downloaded the first data resulting in "memory map european ed" icon appearing on desktop. I then clicked "finish" to exit the installation menu, as instructed. A box then displayed saying "searching this cd" and I then selected "install files onto computer." The display box then disappears and there is no file download progress window showing, however, I can see that the computer is processing data by a flashing light. I leave this for circa 25 mins. untill activity stops. There is however no notification on the screen that the download has either initiated or finished. I then click on desktop icon "memory european..." and then maps. "Refresh map list window" then appears which shows locations searched for map files, notably, C: and C:\Maps -v5. I select OK and nothing happens apart from a spinning blue circle. Finally, a window announces "memory map navigator not working." This is closely followed by another window saying "PNG load error - must be palette : C;DELL\dell-bar.png". I am really struggling with this! I am not a expert on computers as is plain to see, however, I have never had this trouble with any other software previously purchased from yourselves or elsewhere. Is it possible that I have purchased a faulty dvd? To compound my woes, I have tried to restore my computer to a date prior to first installation of this new software. My computer will not now restore at all, (it informs me that restore has failed due to a system error),having previously accomplished this task without difficulty in the past. Is it possible that memory map have "fixed" my computer to prevent me from re-using my v5 maps? Regards. John.

No, Memory-Map in no way could impact your restore options. Please go to MAP > MAP LIST > REFRESH MAP LIST and remove the C:\ from the list. You want to search C:\Maps and C:\Maps_V5. You could also search the DVD. This should put that map on the list.

It sounds like the program is finding PNG files which are not maps and this may be causing the issue.

Hi John,

Or perhaps your PC has a virus which has deleted or attached itself to the "system restore" files (it happened to me once). If in doubt, I suggest running the (free) "malwarebytes" app (downloaded from a reputable site) rather than any of those that want to charge you money.

Cheers, Alan.

Hi all, and thanks for your suggestions and patience! I have no virus according to Avast Internet Security Program (paid for). I do now have a map list though! It contains a mix of old version maps/legends/atlases etc. There are also some files marked with a star/asterisk suffix, which are 2012 ed. but there is no data showing in the size column, just a "-". There is one file OS 1:50K GB, which is 2012 ed. which HAS a file size of 17.9K. This item is prefixed with a yellow/orange tick!
However, all attempts to open these and then go to web updates results in the "Application not found" window appearing! Has anyone any ideas?
Regards. John.

Don't worry too much about the web update; click Help > About & if it says Version 5.4.2 you don't need to update.

I'm not sure what asterisks or orange ticks signify but a complete & activated map should have a green tick. The OS 1:50 GB qct file is 17.9KB but the accompanying qc3 is 2.15GB. If you think that your map installation is less than complete you can do it manually.

Open the folder containing your maps (C:\Maps_v5 ?) Insert the DVD but do not let it start to install. Instead, open up the DVD in Windows so you can see the files on the disc, the idea is to compare it with the files on your computer. There's all sorts of stuff which you may or may not want on your installation but the important folder is the os50 folder. If there is anything there which is not on your computer, copy & paste it to the relevant place in your map folder.
