Thanks for trying to help Jason.
So:
I am signed in as an administrator.
I have turned off UAC.
I run MM by right clicking the exe file in Program Files (x86) and choosing "Run as administrator"
But:
When I click "OK" on the "Sign into your account" window
I still get "A problem occurred......."
Interestingly if I click "I forgot" w2.memory-map.com/....../forgot.htm opens at once.
The "Help" button launches w2.memory-map.com/Webhelp\license_management.htm with no problem.
I haven't tried creating a new account because that won't help me migrate but I can try to create a dummy one if it helps you fault find.

I don't know if this helps identify the problem or if this is something different, but with the 1:50k UK map displayed and the cursor anywhere in the UK (e.g. London Airport) "Map", "Digital Map Shop", "Online Maps" gives "No Maps for This location" which seems unlikely.

Over to you Jason :-)

SORTED!

I saw this in another thread:
"As an aside, I couldn't contact the DMS server through Memory Map at first because I had Internet Explorer in "work offline" mode. I don't use IE as a browser, but Memory Map still required the underlying DLLs to sort out the licencing. I'd never seen this recorded anywhere, so it was a bit of a mystery at first!"

I use Chrome but I held my nose and started IE8, 32 bit version.

Success I have now been able to sign on and migrate my license and the link to the map shop works.

Perhaps it is only when a secure link is needed that MM calls on the IE Dlls???

Hope this helps others with this problem.

All credit to Bellers and his post about 1:10,000 street maps.

You can ignore the DLL comments. He is simply saying that instead of using Chrome, he used standard Internet Explorer and it worked. We do know of a problem with some versions of Chrome working with our license server.

I battled with this for several hours today ...... the solution is just to exit chrome (and presumably any other browser) - only then will Memory Map connect to the server (using Internet Explorer) and allow map uploads etc.
