Tried upping the Baud Rate but this does not help. Please let me know the next steps as the GPS device only has issues when used with Memory Map.

Thanks

Hi,

You jumped onto an old thread, but are you sure that your situation is exactly the same, i.e. are you using Win 7, MM v5.4.2 and a Globalsat USB GPS, etc.?

Have you checked that you have the latest drivers because MM doesn't necessarily use exacly the same protocol messages as other GPS software. Also, have you been trying to use two different applications, without closing down the first (COM ports normally can't be shared).

Cheers, Alan.

Thanks for your reply Alan.

I have now got this working. I have used a piece of software called GPSGATE to intercept the comp Port that the GPS is using and present it to Memory Map on another COM port.

kimberd,

Fantastic to hear that its been fixed. However the fact that you need GPSGate does confirm that something else is holding the GPS set Com Port and not letting it be released.

Thanks

This is all interesting. I use the Prolific driver with MM. I have just rebuilt my system because it stopped working in exactly the way you describe. All was fine, then I made the mistake of activating the GPS license (dont know why did, because it was working fine without activation) bingo, GPS now locks up. So, is it is something to do with the Prolific driver, what does MM do to it when you activate the GPS, or are we barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks for tip. I came to the forum as I had exactly the same problems. I downloaded GPSGATE and it is all working perfectly.

I am having the same problems using Win 7 starter on a netbook.
After some minutes the program hangs, the flashing location stops, and the maps program cannot be closed.
The GPS is still functioning.
I'll try the fix as stated earlier, but I am a little disappointed.
Ernie.
