Garmin 45XL to PC

I am trying to connect my Garmin 45XL to MM but I keep getting a message "This Garmin does not support D800 Protocol use N" and the rest of the message is lost. I will also want to connect to a Garmin 128 on my boat but suspect I will get the same message. What is the rest of the message?, and will the resolution work on my 128.

Is that Garmin about 15+ years old, or have Garmin re-used the number?

The message probably says ".. use NMEA (protocol)". That should allow MM to display and record the stream of current GPS positions from the GPS (which must be set to "NMEA interface"), but is NOT likely to give any access to internal data such as waypoints or tracklogs, etc..

I don't know the 128, nor what you mean by "the resolution work.." but as far as MM is concerned the answer is probably the same as above.

The 128 is a very old unit (about 15 years). If you select the GRMN/GRMN mode in the SETUP / INTERFACE section, the program should allow transfer of overlays. The NMEA option would give you live NMEA feed to show your position. It will depend on the firmware on the device. The 45XL is from the same timeframe. It also has an interface option and should have the same options.

I have tried the GARMIN/GARMIN set up on the $% and that's when I get the message. I will try the NMEA/NMEA and post the results.

Do you have the latest firmware installed on both GPS units?
