as a separate annoyance, although I think linked to the new version of the software when the map is locked and you pam the screen if you push the current position of the screen rather than stopping youthe lock gets switched off.

Hi,

Yes, that's a new (IMHO bad) feature of the v5.4.x mobile software, not a "bug" as it's described in the release notes. :(

Cheers, Alan.

hello,
just to let you know, if you put pocket nav on your list of apps that can auto rotate, then the icons come back when you view your phone in landscape.

Sorry to hijack and resurrect this old thread, but title seemed appropriate.

I am looking to replace a very old Windows Mobile 2003 device, and would prefer something with Windows Mobile v6.5. Definitely don't want an iPhone!

Looking at previous posts, I see a few mentions of the HTC HD2 but I was wondering if anyone out there is using MM on another WinMob device - e.g. Samsung Omnia 2, Acer F1 etc.

Unfortunately the sticky at the top of the forum about MM compatible devices is not much help - it seems to be rather out-of-date.

Many thanks

Euan

I have just bought a Garmin Nuvifone M10 which runs Win Mob 6.5.3. MM works fine now that I have solved the GPS communication issues but I am having problems in making any settings - eg changing Deg,min, sec to Nat Grid. I get the relevant settings screen and can select the required settings but there is no OK button to fix them - in fact there is no way to exit the settings screen. What am I missing?

Hi Ron,

From another thread I believe you're using v5.1.3 (which should work but the interface is rather different to MM v5.4.x). I'm afraid my latest PDAs are only WM6.1 running MM v5.4.2, so I may not be able to help much.

As I don't know the Garmin, can you confirm it has a touchscreen? What is the screen resolution and can you rotate the screen (manually or automatically)? Does your screen display have task/status bars at top and bottom (the OK is normally at top-right)? Are you aware of MM's tiny green arrow which can take you in and out of "full screen" mode?

Cheers, Alan.

Hi, Alan
You certainly keep on top of this forum - thanks!
The Garmin does have a touch screen 480 x 800 and it will rotate automatically with MM. The screen display has status icons at the top for such as battery, wifi, phone signal, GPS lock and the X for "parking" a program is at the BOTTOM right, often hidden in a sub menu behind another icon when in full screen mode - Internet Explorer is an example where hitting the single icon at bottom right pulls up a bottom menu which includes X and Back among other options. MM v5.1.3 does not have that icon - in fact the settings screen has just the top status bar. The map screen has the normal Pocket Navigator buttons at the bottom. There is no "X" but Menu - Exit does the job better anyway!

I believe that WinMob 6.5.3 has moved the OK and X from top right to bottom right and this seems to be the issue - I have a similar problem with Pocket Sudoku where pressing Help-about took me to a screen with no exit similar to MM's Settings. You say that MM v5.4.2 has a different interface - I guess that I need to try it, though the documented changes to 5.4 mention only improved compatibility with Vista and W7 and do not discuss Win Mobile compatibility. Any comment on this Jason or usmmtech?

I know the small green arrow and that has nothing to do with the problem as it does not appear on the settings screen. Some folk have complained about losing some of the icons at the bottom of the MM map sreen when in Portrait mode, notably the lock and information icons. This is because icons are larger to accommmodate finger instead of stylus and the issue is solved by rotating (automatically in my case) to Landscape when the "lost" icons appear.

Since putting my question I have discovered this thread viewtopic.php?f=26&t=651 and Athorne1974's post of July 11 2010 is relevant and confirms the repositioning of the OK button. With the HD2 the poster has installed a cooked ROM which solves the issue. He does not say whether he is using latest MM v5.4.2 software.

For settings I had hoped to be able to do a registry hack, perhaps even concoct a couple of settingsn.reg files but it does not seem that the settings are stored in the registry. Nor can I find anything in Application Data or any .ini file to edit.

So currently I am stumped! It seems that the repositioning of OK and X have made problems for developers.

Another oddity that I have discovered on my 480 x 800 screen: In landscape mode MM seems to not want to redraw the right hand end of the screen (pixels 640 to800?). If I lock to location, drag right and then unlock and relock I get the location symbol (red circle) remaining at the right of the screen with another flashing one back in the middle. I don't think that happens in Portrait mode (drag to bottom of course) but I will check that.

Thanks again - I hope that MM Support may have some comments.

Ron

What is the position on the issue of changing position format settings with Windows 6.5.3? The OS maps work fine on Pocket Navigator and the various other issues mentioned in this thread, while irritating, can be accommodated. Positions and tracks are marked spot-on. However, when I go abroad I scan local maps to a tif, load them into MemoryMap Navigator and calibrate them using something like Google Earth if they don't already have a lat/long grid to mark reference points. The calibration works perfectly but then when I use them out in the field I get a consistent error because the mobile device is set up using OS Grid and my maps are calibrated WGS84. I have tried using my transferred MMOS in OS format and also transferring the mobile program again from MMNavigator set up in WGS84 but seem to get the same inaccuracy. In other words, on my device I have two Memory map icons - one called MMapOS and the other MMap Navigator each separately transferred from the corresponding program on the PC. I am using V5.1.3 build 715 because it is clearly no help using the latest software which combines the functions of OS and Navigator if I cannot change format.

Can you acknowledge this problem? How do I change the grid format on my mobile device to deal with the issue? Is there some form of registry change that I can make or how can I get at the settings through the back door to change them?

PLEASE HELP!
