Out of interest, I just downloaded a portion of OS 25k mapping from Anquet. The blue line crossing points are spot on. If they can do it, I can't see why MM can't seem to get it right.

I didn't get a response from "support" when I emailed them. It's obviously gone in the too difficult box, along with "having a workable system for buying maps".

I have not seen an email regarding this, is there any chance you could resend it to support@memory-map.co.uk - Thanks Jason

Thanks Jason, I've only just read this so have resent it today.

I've tried the suggestion of putting a datum shift in (15m E) and this seems to work for the Peak District but may not help for other parts of the country?

Jason,

I too sent you an email (21st March 2012) to which I received no reply.
I've sent you another today. The content of todays email is copied below. The email has the 'route' attached.

It has become apparent through these forums that there seems to be a problem with the system that converts the original OS mapping to the qct files we use in the Memory Map software.

Presumably the original OS mapping is very accurate (errors <1m?) and is not responsible for the errors that we are finding with the qct maps (Sometimes over 15m).

Email sent to support@memory-map.co.uk today
(sent at 1046, 17 April 2012, Subject: Lake District - calibration route file attached)
-------------------------------
I've created a Memory Map route you can use to easily check the map calibration of the Lake District National Park. It is attached.

The route zig zags over every part of the park and every waypoint has a nice round grid reference that should place it exactly on a grid line intersection. Overlaying it on the OS 1:25k Lake District map (edition 2007 revision 2), none of the waypoints line up with grid line intersections. The map calibration error is worst in a West to East direction. On the west side of the park the waypoints appear about 18m west of where they should be. On the east side of the park they are about 14m west of where they should be.

A datum shift of 5m N and 16m E will line up the map much better with the waypoints.

Has this gone back into the "too hard" box?

Looks like it. I've had no reply to either of my emails.

I just want to try to bring this to the fore again. I have spent quite a bit of money on MM stuff. I want to stick with it. But at the weekend I trialled a competitors product. Although MM had advantages on some points, the rival product was spot on with it's map co-ordinates. However, MM was about 10 to 15 metres out. Could be crucial at times.

I've resent my email again, this time to memory-map.co.uk (I used .com before so maybe it didn't get through, even though that's a valid domain).

I'll let you know if I get a response.

Got a response straight away this time. Apparently the production team are looking into options to fix the problem.

As you say, fingers crossed.
