I have a fairly full mmo file, and I want to create a mmo file, which just contains a single Track and a number of associated waypoints.

I use Overlay hide ‘ALL’ and then just tick the track I want to export, but as soon as I do this to the one single track the all Tracks box is ticked as well. I then do ‘Export Visible…’ and save the file with a new name.

When I the open this new mmo file I get Marks, Route, Text (none of which were ticked at the time of Export), and the ALL the un-ticked tracks – not just the one single track that I wanted!

Is there anyway you can just export just one set of Tracks and the associated Marks - and nothing else?

Hi Martin,

To export a single track why not just right-click it and save?

For a group of waypoints you could link them all into a single route and save that. But beware that if you then delete that route it will also delete all the included waypoints (unless they have been locked first).

Cheers, Alan.

Alan,

tried right-clicking, but when I open this file (having shut down MM first) I still get everything else. Although the file that I open is only 13kb compared with the 2,300 of the full mmo file.

I just don't get it!

I think that MemoryMap will open your imported track as well as opening up your userdata mmo file, if it can find the latter in its usual place (eg the Map Overlays folder).

Try moving your userdata file to somewhere safe. Then you can copy it back when you need your full data.

Hi Martin,

Yes, importing an overlay file just ADDS the data to the existing overlay data. This is necessary because you might want to combine overlay data from various sources (files).

If you want to start with a "clean sheet" (having exported anything you might want again) then you can use "Delete All" or the slightly less drastic "Delete Hidden".

Cheers, Alan.

Wouldn't it be simpler if you could just save individual overlays.

It's a nightmare to try and do what I want. I have 'sort of' found out how to, but it's a question of moving the user data files and the back-up files to different folders remembering to close MM before moving or deleting any files and then opening the saved file that I need on it's own. -- ALL VERY MESSY, there should be a much easier way to do it!

Having a 1.84mb user data file also means MM is slow to open!

Hi Martin,

What version of MM are you using? It shouldn't really be necessary to move userdata files at all. You can organise all the the overlay data in "categories" and save/delete/load them at will.

Certainly MM is desperately in need of the standard Windows "block" operations (selecting a group of items with Shift/Ctrl keys pressed) but drag and drop in the tree (properties) window is usable provided you avoid having too many items in each (sub-) category.

My "trick" is that to avoid the generic categories (Track, Route, Mark, etc.) getting too full just edit their names. Then they can then be hidden, dragged, saved, deleted, etc. as required.

Cheers, Alan.

Hi Alan,

I am running 5.4.2

I have my overlay data in different categories within the genetic categories. But this still give me the problems I encounter that are in my original post when I try to save a particular category on it's own.

I totally agree that the windows block selection is sorely missing in MM, having just moved about 120 individual tracks in a new category, one at a time!

When I look back at the suggestions/improvements I have the distinct feeling that these are low on the agenda!

Hi Martin,

Are you saying that the following procedure doesn't give just the items that you want:

"Export All" <backupname> (to allow you to return to the current overlays later)
"Save (selected items) As" <filename> (from the map or tree window)
"Delete All"
"Import" <filename> ?

IMHO using the generic categories as root folders is not the best idea. Personally I use root names such as "Tracks" and "Routes" (these could be created just by adding an 's' to the current categories) for my subcategories. Then, when I create a set of routes, they are stored in an automatically recreated generic "Route" folder which can be renamed (e.g. "C2C routes") and the whole category dragged to wherever required in a single step. The same applies to importing tracks from a GPS or importing geocaches (Marks) for a holiday, etc..

Cheers, Alan.

Alan,

thank you that is most helpful, I had not realised that this was the way to do it, and now I can split up my tracks into neat files, as I wanted.

I've also done as you suggested and changed the names to Tracks and Routes

Thank you again for your help.
