I am trying to open a route that was made on a new version of memory map, I have an older version (2004) and it will not open, it is saying it contains incorrect schema. Any ideas?

Yes, the .MMO (Overlay) file format has changed several times since 2004 an is not forwards-compatible. However, the .CSV (and probably .GPX) file formats are compatible so if you have access to MM v5.4.x then "Save As" the route file to import back into MM 2004.

If you don't have access to v5.4.x then you could install it from the downloads page (just to make the conversion) or perhaps use GPSBabel.
