I have just bought French Alps Region B. I cant even install it! Steps I have taken are: installation disc - run set up - when welcome screen appears, click "install English version" - check box to install maps onto computer then check OK - maps are then seen loading but at the end of the process the screen just goes back to the welcome screen inviting me to install English version or French version. Nothing else happens, and if I then put one of the map CDs in to PC it says installation requires correct version of Memory Map to be installed and cannot find it.

The installation is to C:\\Maps, i.e. nothing is being installed in Program Files, which surprised me, but I am used to using Anquet which actually appears to install a program.

How do I install this software?! I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.

Hi,

I expect you'd like an answer before Jason comes in on Monday. :)

Not quite sure why you're having problems, maybe asking for an English install for a French map? ;)

However, somewhere on the CD there should be an .EXE file, possibly called Navigator which should install MM into the Program Files folder. But the software may well be out of date so you can dowload it directly from here. When the software runs you may need to tell it where the maps are on the HDD using the Map : Map List : Refresh Map List pull-down menu.

Note: The MM application used to be about 5MB in two versions, "European" and "OS" (Ordnance Survey) and the correct version was required for some maps (that's the thing that can cause the "incorrect version" message). These are now combined into a single installer of about 18MB (despite what the web page says) which uses a new license management scheme. For this you will need to create an "account" on the MM website.

Cheers, Alan.

Do you already have the Memory-Map OS edition software installed?

Thanks

No. I use Anquet.

I eventually managed to install the software through a combination of Alan's reply over the weekend and exploring the disk myself. I have to say how disillusioned I am that (i) the installation instructions which came with the maps bear ABSOLUTELY NO relation to what I needed to do to install it and (ii) there isn't a conventional support service on the website - you have to trust to a user forum. I just hope I did it right - it hasn't asked for me to register or activate the program but I assume I shall still need to do so.

I had the same problem with IGN Top25 Region B re-installation a couple of weeks ago. I also have Windows Vista Home Premium. I had to do the install manually just as you have done. On the first attempt Vista advised that program compatibility settings would have to be applied, i.e. the install program predates Vista. It ran successfully the second time. I bought my Region B disks about 2 years ago. I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the mapping and my feeling was that that this was due to being first generation scanning by IGN. If the IGN product has not been updated in the meantime perhaps this explains the problems we have both had.

The only time I have ever seen this happening is when the Memory-Map OS Edition software is already installed on the PC when running under the Windows Vista or Windows 7 environment.
It has something to do with the Windows User Control settings, and as such turning them off generally fixes the problem.

Thanks

Jason

Sorry but this reply is somewhat vague. Can you be clearer as to what I need to do please? Thank you.

Also - is there a proper support site or do all queries have to be addressed through this forum?

Andy

Yes, the quality is still very patchy. Looks a bit like a badly photocopied job with the joins horribly evident. Some parts of the map are quite clear, while others look as if they've been copied through a slightly opaque film! I assume this is IGN and not MM?

Within your Control Panel, you will have an option for User Account Controls. Turn this off.
The forum is the first line of support, we then also have email and telephone.

Thanks
