For the first time in a couple of weeks, I tried using the Memory map program on my PC (windows xp). Windows gave an error message "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". I plan to de-install, then re-install the program, but before I do that, can anyone please advise on the following points
a) the file 'memory map software.exe' is still in a file on my hard drive - should I use that, or should I download a new version from the Memory Map site?
b) will re-installing cause me to lose the activated maps for France and associated route information? If so can I do anything to safeguard them?
PLEASE NOTE - I do not know the MM software version, since I can't open the program. Via windows explorer, I can see the date 12/07/2011 alongside the .exe file. Perhaps that gives an idea of the s/w version, if that is important for answering my questions.

Reinstalling should not affect your existing maps or licenses, but I would strongly recommend you install from the website and not a file on your PC.

Do you have all Windows updates current for your computer?

Sound to me as if you have missing or corrupt visual c++ libraries.

Hello - first to answer USmmtech - I checked and found that all essential MS updates have already been applied. The program secunia psi also confirms that no updates are outstanding.
- secondly to answer rothers - i followed your advice and downloaded the package from the link you gave, and applied it.
Sadly the problem is not solved.

I have to agree with rothers. This certainly appears to be a libraries issue. This can sometimes be corrected by updating the OS and/or reinstalling the library (which you have apparently done), but so many things change these libraries that it is very difficult to narrow down the cause.

Ok, thanks for your comments over the past few of days. At the moment I'm stuck for ideas but if anyone in the forum has anything new to add, I'll be pleased to read it.

There was no error message number. The text was translated from Dutch, but I think the transation is good.
In any case, since my last comment was posted, I recovered all my C drive data from a backup, and this solved the problem of the configuration message. I am once again able to use the MM software, and the downloaded maps are all present and correct.
What is missing are the routes files. This remains the case, so if you can give me a clue as to where to go looking. They must be still available, but it is not obvious (to me) where to go looking. If they're still available, and I can display them again, then all the problems will have been kicked into touch. Thanks.
