The Memory-Map® Adventurer™ 2800 offers unparalled performance and high resolution mapping ready to use out of the box. Here's how :
The Adventurer 2800 is compatible with Memory-Map V5 maps and comes complete with PC software. We recommend checking for the latest free update to ensure you are using all the latest features - simply open your Memory-Map software and choose the Web > Check for updates option to update to the latest version.
If you are still using Memory-Map 2003 or 2004 you will need to upgrade your maps to V5. Please click here for details.
All of Britain’s ‘official’ National Parks are included:
Brecon Beacons, Norfolk Broads, Cairngorms, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Lake District, Lock Lomond, New Forest, Northumberland, North York Moors, Peak District, Pembrokeshire Coast, Snowdonia, South Downs and Yorkshire Dales.
Adventurer 2800 also includes Digital Map Shop credits for you to download an extra 10,000 sqkm of OS Landranger maps from anywhere in Great Britain, for example to add the Cotswolds would only require around 2,000 sqkm or choose other areas near where you live and play. We've designed the Adventurer 2800 to be used for a typical days walking or cycling so average battery life is around 8 hours. Actual battery life will depend on many factors including backlight settings and ambient temperature. We recommend selecting 30 Sec backlight timeout in the Power Save settings menu. For longer trips we recommend you use the 'hot standby' feature which will give you many days use on a single charge and allow you to quickly obtain your GPS position to guide you on your way when you need it, just as you would normally use a map and compass.
Make sure the unit is fully charged before you leave, preferably using an overnight charge. Keep the GPS warm, maybe by storing in a coat pocket rather than exposed on a rucksack strap as, just like us, batteries use more energy when cold!
Adjust the Power Save settings to time out the backlight after 30 secs or less. As Memory-Map software will automatically join up your gps tracklog consider using the 'hot standby' feature which will give you many days use on a single charge and allow you to quickly obtain your GPS position to guide you on your way when you need it, just as you would normally use a map and compass.
You can also use mini USB rechargers/extenders, such as Power Chimp (Approx £20, capable of recharging Adventurer 2800 twice) and even solar panels to recharge your GPS. There are also new dynamo chargers available to cyclists for on-the-go charging.
We’ve designed and tested the unit to be used outdoors but avoided the claim that some manufacturers make of being ‘waterproof’ as Adventurer GPS cannot be used under water! We therefore think ‘weatherproof’ is a better description. If you intend to use your Adventurer GPS in an activity where it may become submersed in water (eg sailing or canoeing) then we recommend the added protection of a waterproof bag such as those from Aquapac. (SRP approx £15.00)
The IP rating for Adventurer 2800 is IPx5 – the same as the previous Adventurer 7000 and Satmap Active 10*.A 2GB microSD card is supplied with your Adventurer 2800. This is pre-loaded with OS Landranger maps for Britain's National Parks but still has around 1GB of spare capacity for additional Memory-Map maps.
You can use up to a 16GB card in the Adventurer 2800, but as an example of what you could fit on this, the whole of Great Britain at 1:50,000 Landranger scale is around 4GB.
OS Great Britain Road Map – 1:250,000 scale.
OS Great Britain Route Planner – 1:1,000,000 scale. To display maps clearly we’ve included a high resolution screen with 96,000 pixels (400 x 240). This is far more than similar sized units such as the Garmin Dakota* 38,400 (240 x 160) and even more than larger units such as Satmap Active 10* which has only 76,800 (320 x 240). It’s like the difference seen with the latest High Definition televisions compared to older standard televisions.
You’ll notice the difference in screen quality especially when viewing full colour topo maps or if you use Adventurer 2800’s Picture Viewer.
